Cordes-sur-Ciel
Perched on its spur, Cordes-sur-Ciel seems to float in the mist on some mornings, hence its name. You climb the cobbled lanes together, past Gothic houses and craft workshops, up to the summit where you take in the Tarn countryside at a glance. A coffee on a terrace, a walk on the ramparts, a design boutique: the town invites you to extend the date without ever growing bored.
Castelnau and Puycelsi
Listed among France’s most beautiful villages, Castelnau-de-Montmiral opens its pretty arcaded square to anyone wanting to share a shaded drink. Nearby, Puycelsi overlooks the Grésigne forest from its intact ramparts. The twin villages offer panoramas and romantic walks, especially in late summer when the light grazes the tile roofs and gilds the stones.
Lautrec, pink garlic and bastides
Lautrec, a medieval town in the south of the department, is known for its PGI pink garlic, to taste in winter soup or share as an aperitif. The bastides of Lavaur and Bruniquel complete the itinerary, each with its own character: a grand collegiate, a perched castle, quiet lanes. On Lyad, members from the Tarn share their favourite villages; it is up to you to find someone to get lost in them with.
